What
happens if the hair starts to fall out?
|
|
Each hair follicle possesses the genetic
disposition to have its own pattern
of a growing and resting phase. As
you grow older, the hair follicles
are preconditioned to grow for a shorter
period and remain in the resting phase
for a longer period.
Research has shown that people suffering
from hair loss also demonstrate a
swelling of the hair sacs. Because
of this swelling, the hair bulb can
no longer return to its place in the
skin. This disturbs the growing phase,
and leads to it that new hair can
be formed, but cannot settle. This
means that new hairs are continually
produced by the hair bulb, but the
hairs will only reach the age of a
few weeks, rather than several years.
As a result, the newly formed hairs
remain of very thin and downy structure
and they keep falling out after a
few weeks or months. The speed in
which the balding process progresses
varies from person to person.

Is
a hair transplantation a painful procedure?
|
|
The treatment happens under local
anesthesia and in principle, it is
completely painless. As a result of
the local anesthesia, you will experience
a tight feeling on your scalp. It
is comparable to wearing a too small
helmet. This feeling can continue
for several days.

|
Can
I go right back to work after treatment?
|
|
We always advise our patients to take
at least 1 to 2 weeks off after treatments,
since there may be a formation of
redness and scabs on the scalp which
can remain until 10 to 12 days after
treatment. Normally, it is also possible
that a swelling (oedema) of the forehead
and/or sides of the face comes into
existence 2 to 3 days after the treatment.
This will disappear after 7 to 8 days.
Advised, therefore, is a resting period
of 2 weeks after treatment.

 |
|
Will
it be visible after treatment that I
underwent a hair transplantation?
|
|
The coloring of the scalp will remain
visible for ten days. The scabs with
the stubs will dry up beautifully
and will disappear after 10 to 12
days because of the washing and rinsing.
As a matter of principle, it is no
longer visible after that.

When
will the hair start growing again?
|
|
The
hair roots will produce new hairs
again, which will be visible after
3 to 4 months. At first, the hairs
will be of a very thin and downy structure,
but gradually, they will become thicker
and sturdier. The end result of the
treatment will only be final after
1 year.

 |
|
Will
all transplanted hairs keep growing?
|
|
In principle, all transplanted hair
follicles will produce new hairs which
will continue to grow throughout the
rest of your life. Still, there are
always exceptions to the rule. Fortunately,
however, these are very rare.

|
|
 |
|
What
can I do with the new hairs?
|
|
You are allowed to
do anything with them. The use of
hair spray, gel and hair lacquer are
no problem anymore after 4 weeks.
Do you want to dye your hair? It is
best to wait at least 6 week

Are
there many women who have a hair transplantation?
|
|
About 10% of our patients are female.
Because of the enormous evolution
of transplanting a person's own hair,
and the vast improvement of the results
because of it, more and more women
are having a hair transplantation.
